Land and Agriculture – Agriculture Pesticide Application

This indicator displays the estimated pesticide usage for each county in pounds.Totals are supplied directly from the National Water-Quality Assessment Project. Pounds per square mile was calculated by CARES using the total area of land provided by the Tiger Boundary files from the U.S. Census Bureau. Pounds per square mile of agricultural land was calculated by CARES using the percent of the county in the ‘cultivated crop’ and ‘pasture/hay’ classes of the National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD) multiplied by the total area of the county.
