This indicator reports total population and the population density. Population density is defined as the number of persons per square mile of land area. Data are obtained from the Census 2020.

Source Description
The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States. It is mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution and takes place every 10 years. The census collects information about the age, sex, race, and ethnicity of every person in the United States. The data collected by the decennial census determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. Methodology
Population and land area data are from the U.S. Census Bureau Decennial Census 2020. Mapped data are summarized to 2020 census tract boundaries. Population density is calculated using the following formula:
